About Us & Updates for Fall 2022 Below

Dedicated to the Future

Same family, same love for everything educational since 1993.

In 1993, Leonard & Kelli Orona both saw a need in their community. They understood that education offers many opportunities for success in one’s community and most importantly to one’s life. They both believe “Vallejo is truly the hidden gem of the North Bay.”

The Oronas opened their doors in a small 800 square feet suite on Vallejo’s Downtown Georgia Street known as the old Levy’s Building. Now located on 1822 Springs Road, in a larger facility to provide more product, they continue to offer supplies and materials for Solano County and the Bay Area.

What made you want to open The Bookworm in 1993?

God really put it upon my heart to bring educational supplies to ALL no matter one's budget, allowing everyone and anyone the ability to improve themselves or their children's education. The best way out of one's current situation is education!

What gives you the motivation to continue The Bookworm all these years?

Definitely the families that come in. To be able to see the need and fill it in our community is a big motivation to continue especially when families come back to tell me how that book or method really helped or their child. Now I am seeing customers who were either once a parent now a grandparent or a child now a parent is truly a gift!

Another motivation What most people forget is learning is not the same as teaching. I tell all my customers who come in to The Bookworm to look at their children as if they are a blank page, we are writing on that page whether they like learning or hate learning is how we teach them.

Outside of The Bookworm, what are some hobbies or interests you have?

My hobbies vary but my main three would be reading, gardening, and my pets.

Favorite quote?

"It's cheaper to Educate than incarcerate our youth." -- Riley-Thomas

If you have a word of encouragement to your customers, what would it be?

To never give up on your child or their dreams. Don't believe what people tell you about YOU or your child's ability. Children have a great ability to learn, remember if their not learning when you teach them.

“More than JUST a bookstore,” The Bookworm has helped contribute to many organizations and local school programs over the years to encourage the next generation for a better future. In addition to their involvement, the family has also added The Bookworm Learning Center for grades Pre K-12th.

The Bookworm continues to offers free events throughout the year however due to pandemic- all in-store events are cancelled.

We hope to resume 2022.
